The National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) began as Queen’s College Galway in 1845. The university’s total enrolment was almost 19,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The university was ranked in the top one percent in the 2018 QS World University Rankings and is a member of the Coimbra Group, a group of 40 well-established European universities. International students take up 12% of the student population here.

Connacht Rugby is also quite popular in NUIG as they have a rugby union team who have high-performance education partnership with the Connacht Rugby Academy.
