Top Things to do in Glasgow at Christmas 2025

“The nights are fair drawing in” – a well-known Scottish phrase describing the arrival of winter as daylight fades early. But when it comes to Christmas in Glasgow, the city truly comes alive with light, laughter, and festive cheer, keeping your nights bright and merry. From twinkling lights to family pantomimes and magical ice rinks, there’s no shortage of things to do in Glasgow at Christmas. We've rounded up some of the best festive experiences you don’t want to miss during this season.

    Wander Through Winter Wonderland

This year, Glasgow's festive vibe kicks off with twin spectacular winter events at St Enoch Square and Glasgow Green. The St Enoch Winter Wonderland opens in early November (November 6 - December 24, 2025) and features rides, a snow-globe photo booth, a solar-powered observation wheel and festive shopping. Meanwhile, a second event at Glasgow Green runs from November 21 through January 4, 2026, complete with an outdoor ice rink, electrifying rides, and a festive bar.

Perfect for a family festive day out, you can treat yourself to a bite from independent food vendors at the Winter Wonderland, visit a Santa grotto, and soak up the joyful atmosphere that makes Christmas in Glasgow truly magical.

    Experience IRN-BRU Carnival

Running from December 19 to January 11, 2026, at the SEC Centre, this legendary indoor funfair is Europe’s largest. The IRN-BRU Carnival features more than 75 thrilling rides, stalls and family attractions, all under one roof. It’s the perfect way to escape the cold while keeping the festive spirit alive. The carnival also conducts autism friendly sessions offering such visitors the chance to enjoy the rides with less queues and crowds.

    Explore Christmas Lights Trail

While the traditional George Square Lights Switch-On won’t take place this year due to redevelopment, Glasgow is still aglow with festive sparkle. Instead, a new Christmas light trail will illuminate Buchanan Street, Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street with art installations.

Take an evening stroll through the city centre and soak up the glow of the season, a must-do for anyone celebrating Christmas in Glasgow.

    Go See a Pantomime!

The Scottish “panto” or pantomime, evolved from the music hall tradition of the mid-19th-century, is a theatrical production that brings family and friends together over the festive period every year in Glasgow. The musical numbers, topical jokes, and slapstick humour combine for a night of laughs and fun, with a regular form of audience participation.

    Shop Along Glasgow’s Style Mile

Renowned for its shopping, Glasgow turns into a festive paradise in December. Late-night openings, decorated windows and Christmas tunes fill Buchanan Street, Princes Square, Buchanan Galleries and St Enoch Centre.

Pick up thoughtful gifts, enjoy a hot chocolate, and soak in the festive buzz: this is retail therapy, Glasgow style.

For those staying in the city centre, the Glasgow Style Mile shopping quarter is within walking distance of Maldron Glasgow Hotel, making it easy to pop in and out between festive explorations.

    Visit Glasgow’s Museums

Warm up indoors by exploring the city’s world-class museums. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum offers an inspiring day out with its stunning collections, while other Glasgow museums host seasonal exhibitions and creative workshops.
